I am currently a research associate at Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg where I investigate GAN-generated images as part of a DFG-funded research project on digital images (SPP 2172). I am also an affiliated researcher in the Artificial Intelligence and Media Philosophy Research Group at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. Starting 2020, I will be Assistant Professor in History and Theory of Digital Humanities at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
I hold a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara where I was a Fellow of the Regents of the University of California, and a Diploma in Theater Studies from the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Gießen, Germany, where I was a student of Prof. Heiner Goebbels and a German National Academic Foundation fellow. Previously, I worked for a number of cultural institutions like ZKM | Center for Art and Media, Goethe-Institut New York, the University of Chicago STAGE lab, and Ruhrtriennale Festival of the Arts.
